Garak Mall – A Must Visit Place For All The Traditional Market Lovers
If you love shopping, I am sure Myoengdong, Insadong and Hongdae areas would be your top priority. On the other hand, if you love buying from traditional markets, Dongdaemun and Namdaemun markets would be your top picks. But today I will talk about an amalgamation of both the modern shopping malls & traditional markets in Korea that is attracting tourists and locals for its unique feature. Yes I am talking about Garak Mall, and today I will tell you why it should be a must visit place for all the traditional market lovers.
What is Garak Mall?
Garak Mall is a modernized sort of market that offers wide range of products from agriculture items, foods, dairy, meet, fruits, vegetables, sea food etc. It is located at the Garak Market station and if you come out of exit 2-1, you will see this huge mall located in front of you whose upper and lower floors are accessible with the elevators and escalators.
How Big is it and What To Do There?
Garak Mall is so big that it has 5 different zones. Each zone of Garak Mall has its own specialty and feature. If one zone is dedicated to sea food, the other one is dedicated to the fruits and vegetables. Within these 5 different “Theme Zones”, you can even try various kind of Korean food options. The mall is so big that they even have a library inside the mall and apart from that different kind of programs are also going on to enhance your experience of shopping at Korean Traditional Markets.
Sea Food Market at Garak Mall
Of all the markets at Garak Mall, my personal favorite one was the Sea Food Market. It is humongous and so big that you can even get lost. I actually got lost there as I couldnt find my friend at a place where we were supposed to meet 🙂 There are different kind of sea foods that you can try from king crab, octopus, fish, squid, shrimps, lobsters, oysters, etc In fact, name any sea food and you’d be able to find it there.
Cheese Market at Garak Mall
If you love cheese, #GarakMall is a heavenly place for you ?
There are different kind of cheese and cheese products from different countries (imported ones) and the local made too. Everything was looking so yummy but I really want to try this fruit cheese so I ended up buying it.
Eating Sashimi Experience at Garak Mall
Sashimi is basically a Japanese and Korean fresh raw fish or meat sliced into thin pieces and often eaten with soy ? One of the cool experiences that I had at Garak Mall was eating Sashimi. You can go to the sea food market and buy your own fish. After that you can come to ??? and ask them to make the Sashimi for you. It was indeed very delicious but if you are not a very big fan of raw fish, its better to try some other food 🙂
How to go to Garak Mall
Line 3: Get off at Garak Market Station and take exit 1 or 2
Line 8 (Jamsil-Moran) After getting off at Garak Market Station, take the exit 1 or 2 or use the underground connection channel at Garak Market Station on Line 8
Overall, Garak Mall is really a beautiful place to go and visit, either solo or along with your loved ones. Don’t forget to let me know how was your experience at Garak Mall.
Don’t forget to read about a SCAM in Korea that you need to avoid.
At the end I would like to thank GlobalSeoulMate & SeoulTourismOrganization for providing me with this opportunity to explore Garak Mall.
