Breaking: Daegu Reports No New Coronavirus Cases For 1st Time Since Outbreak
Daegu i.e Korea’s Southern city and the epicenter for the COVID-19 epidemic, reported no new patients for the first time since the first case was registered to the area on Feb. 18.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said that as of Wednesday the cumulative number of patients in the region stood at 6,807 for the consecutive two days.
Following confirmation of the city’s first and the country’s 31st patient, who was connected to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus’ Daegu branch, major infections occurred in the area, with the average number of patients peaking at 741 on Feb. 29, making the city as the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak.
While giving an interview, Vice Health Minister Kim Gang-lip said, “A high level of social distancing for the last three weeks seems to have made results now. But it is premature to prejudge the situation with the daily number of patients.”
He further added that the second wave of infections could arrive at any time, calling on the people to keep abiding by the social distancing guidelines.
The KCDC reported 27 new cases and four more deaths on a regional scale, Thursday, bringing the nation’s total cases to 10,450 and the death toll to 208. Four of the latest cases were identified at airports.
Daegu stayed strong and finally have defeated the deadly disease. Let’s all play our part and follow the hygienic measures and social distancing guidelines shared by the government. Together we all can eradicate this virus from the planet.
